Itik Penyet @ Austin Heights

Am around Austin Heights area during lunch hour. An upscale area with many cafes, atas eateries which I can hardly afford.

Luckily, I know of a place with good food at very reasonable price due to their set menu (because we always jalan around looking for good cheap eats, so we know la).
Their signature dish is actually herbal duck drumstick (think the famous Bidor Herbal Duck Noodle), but as I am not really a soup guy, I always settle for other dishes like curry chicken mee or this Itik Penyet Rice (It is called Balinese Style Crispy Duck Leg with Rice in their menu).

This is their set menu, the main dish + beautifully done egg + a vegetable + a side dish (which is the fried wanton in this case) and also a choice of drinks

When they say CRISPY Duck Leg, they ain't joking. Even from the photo, you can tell that it is crispy right?

Vegetable in oyster sauce (It is supposed to be Xiao Bak Choy but they ran out that day). And also 3 pieces of Fried Wan Tan (there are choice of other side dishes that you can choose from)

This is the chilli / sambal that comes with the Crispy Duck Leg.

Ala-carte order for the Itik Penyet would be RM12.80 (no egg, no veggie, no side dish, no drinks). Their set menu cost RM16.80 but it comes with egg, veggie, a side dish and drinks. No brainer right?

This is my 3rd time having this dish I believe, the itik penyet is still as crispy as ever. Their marinate doesn't seems to have change, still taste the same. Pretty much like ayam penyet, just that they use duck 'leg' instead. That egg is so pretty that I couldn't bring myself to eat it. I spend about 5 minutes admiring that egg. (LOL)
The vegetable is straight forward as the name implies, veggie in oyster sauce. The fried garlic on top of those veggie is superb. Love those fragrant little monster (they get stuck in my teeth very easily though). Pretty normal fried wan tan, can't be helped since that is not their specialty, can't expect everything in a single restaurant to get A+ score right?
The chilli/sambal for the itik penyet doesn't taste like it used to be though, did ask their staff about it and after some taste test, they did find it slightly different from usual and will check on it.
Nevertheless, the sambal is still pretty good, spicy and sourish. It is very well balance and aromatic, not the kind where it is only spicy, spicy and spicy. It goes very well with the crispy duck leg.

If you love herbal soup, do try their Herbal Duck Drumstick Soup.
They also have Vietnamese drip coffee.
